With their dreams of forming a league in their own backyard motivating them, Lucky Lucia, Hellz Nellz, Honey BasHer, FEARlis, Juicy McLovin, Tommy TMI and Notorious VAG, all skaters with varying degrees of experience and who skated with each other in other leagues, met together in April 2011 to discuss creating a skater-owned league.
In May, a recreational league formed for a trial run of 30 days. During this time, the founding members agreed they were ready to move from a recreational league to a competitive league. By the next month, a summer venue was secured for team practices along with a coach, Mike Anelli. General Leigh Loca was invited by the founding members to be a consultant for merchandising. In mid-June, recruiting material was published in local newspapers and a Facebook page was created, commencing the start of inquires from prospective members.
During the rest of 2011 the founding members worked on the development of Tri Valley Roller Girls. TVRG participated in outdoor events and parades in the cities that make up Tri-Valley area. At these events the team provided recruiting fliers and at times, items for fundraising. There were also garage sales, a car wash and a very special Halloween Bash with raffle prizes to winning guests. In November, a winter indoor practice venue was secured and a Leadership Committee was created consisting of Lucky Lucia, Hellz Nellz, Honey BasHer, Juicy McLovin’, Tommy TMI and General Leigh Loca. It was a successful year with a total of 18 members.
In January 2012, TVRG’s website went live and Photography by D.E.Signs along with Cruz Skate Shop became the team’s first sponsors. In February, Rudechix was added as a sponsor and a fruitful team fundraiser centered on Mardi Gras was held. In March, the team participated in their first parade of the year where recruiting fliers were available, further increasing recruitment. Mid-month, the team moved from their winter venue to the summer venue for practices with a total of 34 members.
2012 is TVRG’s inaugural year as a travel team, competing at the C Level.
